About the museum

Experience life in the county for the past 7,000 years!

Upplandsmuseet is the county museum for Uppsala county. We aim to show you the vibrant and interesting cultural history of our county. We link the past to issues that are relevant both today and for the future, from a critical and scientific perspective.

Visit the museum and see our exhibitions, demonstrations and programmes. Search for knowledge yourself in our library and archive or in our unique collections online. You can also contact us if you have any questions about the cultural environment, building preservation, archaeology and individual objects. We are there for you!

Exhibitions and programs

The museum has permanent exhibitions which describe the history of the city of Uppsala and the province of Uppland over a period of 5,000 years. There are also topical exhibitions on a range of subjects, with both an Uppland focus and a global perspective. Much of our programme activities take place here, with demonstrations, lectures and other activities for children and adults alike.

Museum shop and Café

In the entrance hall, you will find the museum shop, which stocks a wide range of Uppland speciality products. Here you will find genuine craft items and quality souvenirs inspired by objects from our collections. Feeling thirsty? Then why not visit our museum café! In summer, you can also relax in our beautiful courtyard.

Accessibility

Disabled parking is provided in the museum courtyard. We have automatic entrance doors, a lift and a isabled toilet, as well as baby changing facilities. An audio induction loop is available in the auditorium. Portable aids and wheelchairs are available for use.

Parking

There are several chargeable parking spaces quite close to the museum. There are also designated spaces for coaches at St. Eriks torg.

Gamla Uppsala museum (Old Uppsala museum)

The museum is located by one of Sweden’s most impressive ancient sites; the Royal Mounds. Built in the 6th century A.D., the mounds are thought to be the burial monuments of Uppsala’s ruling elite during the late Iron Age. The museum tells the story of the site and in the exhibitions you will find archaeological artefacts as well as interactive elements.

Museum shop and Café

Gamla Uppsala museum also has a popular gift shop, where you can buy souvenirs, toys, literature, jewelry, accessories for historical clothing and much more.

Parking and accessibility

Free parking is available about 100 meters from the museum. Gamla Uppsala museum has accessible parking (about 20 meters from the museum), automated doors, a lift and an accessible toilet.

Disagården open-air museum in Gamla Uppsala

Take a trip back in time to see what life was like in rural Uppland during the late 19th century. The open-air museum is situated in an idyllic location on the edge of Gamla Uppsala, just behind the Uppsala mounds and Gamla Uppsala church.

Professor’s house at Walmstedtska gården
