Visit Gamla Uppsala Museum and discover the history of Old Uppsala. Explore our exhibitions, join a guided tour, learn about exciting archaeological discoveries, take part in family activities and museum workshops, walk among the Royal Mounds, and experience one of Sweden's most important archaeological sites.

Gamla Uppsala Museum offers a wide range of activities for visitors. Admission includes our regular guided tours. We welcome pre-booked groups throughout the year, during both daytime and evenings, and are happy to tailor programmes to suit your interests.

Choose from guided tours of the museum exhibitions or the archaeological site. Tours can also be combined with outdoor activities such as historical archery and warrior games. We also offer shorter tours for groups with limited time.

On the ground floor, you will find our permanent exhibition, Myth, Power and People, inaugurated in 2022. It presents the latest archaeological research, including the much-discussed rows of posts, and tells the story of Old Uppsala from the Late Iron Age to the Middle Ages. On the upper floor, you can see original artefacts from the site, visit Read, you who can!, our exhibition about runes and runestones, and explore our family play exhibition Freyr's Hall.

Open daily during the Swedish school holidays (winter break, Easter holiday and autumn break).

Closed on Walpurgis Eve, Midsummer Eve, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Admission

Annual Pass: SEK 280
Valid for one year from the date of purchase and includes admission to both Gamla Uppsala Museum and Upplandsmuseet.

Admission: SEK 150

Students and Seniors: SEK 120

Free admission for children and young people aged 0–19.

Public Guided Tours

Admission includes our regular guided tours.

Every Saturday and Sunday:

  • 1:00 pm – Guided tour in Swedish
  • 2:00 pm – Family activity
  • 3:00 pm – Guided tour in English

Museum Shop

Visit our museum shop and take a piece of history home with you.

The shop offers a wide range of souvenirs for all ages, including books on archaeology, history and Norse mythology, as well as activity books and craft kits for younger visitors.

You'll also find jewellery in a variety of price ranges, including replicas of archaeological finds and designs inspired by Iron Age art and craftsmanship.
