Visit Gamla Uppsala Museum! Here you can explore the exhibition on the prehistory of Gamla Uppsala, join a guided tour, learn more about exciting archaeological discoveries, take part in museum workshops, walk among the Royal Mounds and experience one of Sweden's most important historical sites.

Gamla Uppsala Museum offers a wide range of activities for visitors. Admission includes our regular guided tours. We welcome pre-booked groups during both daytime and evenings, and we are happy to tailor programmes to suit your wishes.

We offer guided tours of both the museum exhibition and the archaeological site. Tours can also be combined with outdoor activities such as historical archery and warrior games. We can also offer shorter tours for groups that do not have time for a longer visit.

On the ground floor you will find our permanent exhibition, inaugurated in 2022, where new research findings – including the much-discussed rows of posts – have also been incorporated into our story of Gamla Uppsala. On the upper floor you can see original artefacts from the site and the exhibition Interpret It If You Can, about the runestones of Uppland.

Opening Hours

Open Monday–Sunday, 11:00 am–5:00 pm (May–September)

October–April: Wednesday–Sunday, 12:00 pm–4:00 pm.

Open every day during the Swedish school holidays (winter break, Easter holiday and autumn break).

Closed on Walpurgis Eve, Midsummer Eve, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

Admission

Annual Pass: SEK 280. Valid for both Gamla Uppsala Museum and Upplandsmuseet for one year from the date of purchase.

Admission: SEK 150

Students/Seniors: SEK 120

Free admission for children and young people aged 0–19.

Public Guided Tours

Admission includes our regular guided tours.

Every Saturday and Sunday:

  • 1:00 pm – Guided tour in Swedish
  • 2:00 pm – Family activity
  • 3:00 pm – Guided tour in English

The Gamla Uppsala Museum Shop offers a wide selection of souvenirs for all ages. We have a large range of books on history, archaeology and Norse mythology, as well as several fun activity and craft options for younger readers.

The shop also sells jewellery in a range of prices, many of them replicas of archaeological finds or, in some cases, inspired by the visual culture of the Iron Age.
