The Upplands Museum Foundation is a knowledge institution and a community resource for the region’s residents. We contribute to the exploration, preservation and accessibility of our cultural heritage. With a wide range of activities, we are present throughout the entire region.
In central Uppsala, you will find the county museum Upplandsmuseet in Akademikvarnen, as well as Professor’s Home in Walmstedtska gården. In Gamla Uppsala, we operate the open-air museum Disagården and Gamla Uppsala Museum. The county handicraft organisation is located at Kanikenhuset, Västra Ågatan 16. Our administrative office is located at Drottninggatan 7 in Uppsala. Our collections are stored in the collections repository in Morgongåva.
We also work in many locations throughout the county with cultural heritage management, research and archaeology.
The Upplands Museum Foundation aims to present a living and engaging cultural history that is accessible to everyone. Connected to this are questions about the present and the future, approached from a critical and scientific perspective.
The County Antiquarian is the museum director and is responsible for the entire organisation. We are divided into six departments (archaeology, cultural heritage & crafts, collections, communications, administration, and public engagement & learning), each with its own department head.
The foundation’s principals are Region Uppsala and the Uppland Heritage Association and Local History Federation.
